As a new student affairs professional I am committed to cultivating student potential in a holistic manner.  I believe in a student-centric approach that empowers students to take ownership of their learning and development through inquiry and respect for autonomy.  As active participants, students will develop the skills necessary to fully engage in society in accordance with the institutional mission and learning outcomes.   This will be achieved and maintained through:

  • Intentional and differentiated advising/supervising that places a strong focus on student learning and developmental theory.  Students will be challenged and held accountable, and explicit connections between the curricular and extracurricular will be made.
  • Timely and varied assessment of student learning and evaluation of my advising/supervising.
  • Knowing and fostering the achievement of the institutional and departmental mission and learning outcomes.
  • Role modeling professional, caring, and ethical behavior.
  • Developing continued multicultural competence through 1) awareness of my assumptions, biases, and privilege, 2) continually seeking new perspectives and staying current with professional literature, and 3) honing my skill in addressing the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Advocating for the good of students and marginalized student populations.
  • Fostering a safe, caring, and inclusive environment for students and coworkers.
  • Conducting my responsibilities with a sense of humor, and an upbeat and positive demeanor.
  • Using self-reflection as a means to continually improve my practice.
  • Remaining faithful to my values and morals, and seeking congruence in my behavior.
