Diversity & Inclusion
- Advise multicultural student organization; attend multicultural student events
- Attend professional conference on social justice, such as the Social Justice Training Institute
Law & Policy
- Subscribe to higher education and law literature, such as Inside Higher Education, The Chronicle, and Lexus Nexus
- Stay current with local and national policy that affect higher education
Counseling
- Collaborate with counseling professional staff
- Read professional literature such as Derald Wing Sue’s Counseling the Culturally Diverse or Ruth Harper’s More Than Listening: A Casebook for Using Counseling Skills in Student Affairs Work
Risk Management
- Seek out current risk management strategies in place at institution
- Attend risk management meetings at institution or national conference
Human & Organizational Resource
- Assist in the selection and training process of resident assistants
Assessment
- Work with supervisor to gain information on and understand assessment at the institution
- Attend an assessment workshop at the institution
Year Two
Diversity & Inclusion
- Collaborate with multicultural offices and student organizations for programming
- Begin incorporating social justice into my everyday practice and advising using Adams, Bell, and Griffin’s (2007) Teaching for Diversity and Social Justice as a guide
Law & Policy
- Join a professional organization, such as the Council on Law in Higher Education
- Reach out to college administrators and sit on or observe policy committees
- Facilitate educational sessions to students on how law and policy affect residence life and programming
Counseling
- Enroll in a counseling course at the institution or neighboring institution
Risk Management
- Work with my supervisor or other constituencies in the editing or drafting of risk management policies for residence life and programming
Human & Organizational Resource
- Volunteer to assist in the development and implementation of the hiring process of student staff for the next academic year
- Revise and develop inclusive hiring techniques
Assessment
- Create an intentional and sustainable assessment plan for student staff learning and implement it
- Attend a conference session or webinar (e.g. Campus Labs) on assessment

- Attend a national or regional professional multiculturalism in higher education conference, such as the NASPA Multicultural Institute conference
- Facilitate social justice-based activities and sessions for students
